Keys to an eye-catching resume

In the book, Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters is a creative and eye-catching approach to resume preparation that can set you apart from other job applicant's and help get that all important interview.

Information is presented using graphics and color.  It acknowledges how the traditional resume (with a lot of detail) is becoming a thing of the past... in our increasingly "internet job search" world...the traditional resume being replaced with a resume format that is more "graphic"and even with "links" embedded  to personal blogs, articles written, work samples, etc. to quickly demonstrate the immediate value you can bring to an employer by "showing" them your accomplishments even before the first interview.

The guiding premise is you are looking to drive your reader's eyes through your resume using color and graphics that informed people in the field or industry you are pursuing  will recognize which will give you immediate value recognition without them reading a word.

Below  is a sample "guerrilla"  resume headliner

Techniques suggested to use in the resume are:
  • Lead with your best credentials - the top section of the first page of your resume should be eye-catching.  It should include a well-crafted "Headliner" - like a newpaper's front page headline... to catch attention  (similar to your lead-in / headliner on your Linkedin profile).  Ask yourself the question "what one (1)  phrase best characterizes what value I bring to an employer?  Write that directly under you name and personal information in as few words a possible...in some cases, recruiters may not read much past that so it must be engaging.
  • Testimonials - these are one (1) or two (2) quotes from others in supervisory positions about your performance. They are best if they are short quotes and can be taken from performance evaluations.  If you don't currently have any testimonials, reference letters or performance evaluation, track done a past supervisor (within the last 3 to 5 years) and ask them to write one (1) sentences that describes what first comes to mind when they think about you and your work ethic.
  • Awards
  • Computer Proficiencies
  • Logos for any wards, certifications or professional registrations you have attained
  • Company logos in your job history section
  • Summary of Specialized expertise
  • Affiliations and Professional Societies you are a member of (with logos)

I would highly recommend getting the book that develops this resume building approach and other tips on how to market yourself  http://www.amazon.com/Guerrilla-Marketing-Job-Hunters-3-0/dp/1118019091/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1336031186&sr=1-1

I have the book if anyone would like to take a look at it.

Hope this helps,  Art

P.S. The resume must be emailed  as a PDF file attachment so the formatting and color remains as you desire when someone opens it up in a program like WORD that might not have the same settings.  You should always have color hard copies with you when attending an event with networking potential to give someone on the spot.
